From Legos to messing around on the computer, this boy also loves to play outdoors not to mention penguins. A chance to see his beloved birds in the wild will be a possibility for this first grader early next month and he will see them waddle across the ice and feed their newly hatched chicks in Antarctica. Not only will he and his parents be embarking on a trip to the Antarctic Peninsula but they will be joined by an internationally known explorer and filmmaker as well. From the children who are about his age, this continental trip is rare. Celebrating are his friends as he gets even more excited for his travel plans. This is due to the fact that he is taking all of his classmates along. Through an Internet linkup, they will be able to join the expedition without incurring many costs. The live video coverage for this trip is also available for other students.

It is with the pilot youth program that they could ask and answer questions live on a website. Using the boy's dispatches, teachers will heighten the learning experience by incorporating a number of grade level activities. The first, fourth and fifth graders will be working on the weather, geology, and forces in motion respectively.

Given to the family is a chance at adventure. As a nature lover, the trip will really be good for the boy says his mother who also said that she will be the voice of reason on the trip. For the boy, this is a matter of proving to anyone that a little motivation goes a long way. This site teaches you about antarctic tours.

You could say that a webcast is nothing new. Such an interactive experience will be the first for this explorer despite him being the first to ice bike 250 miles across Antarctica and the first American to ski to the South Pole. Aside from extreme skiing, most adult pursuits were involved on his dozen trips there since 1999 including pursuits for science. For the knowledge he gained from multiple trips to Antarctica, he wanted to share this with the children who can benefit the most. The program for kids was though up about a year ago.

The timing couldn't be better as Antarctica possibly because of the March of the Penguins movie has become the new hot destination for adventure. Serendipity may be the thing that led the boy's mother to the explorer. It has been years when the two of them attended a local university but contact was only regained when a mutual friend told her about the website of the 42 year old explorer.

The 14 day expedition began in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the boy made his first live dispatch, and then it worked its way south. They and travelers originating from Toronto boarded a 100 passenger cruise ship that went through the Drake Passage and the Antarctic Peninsula. Considering the roughest sea weather during the entire trip, the 600 mile, 30 hour ride was probably the most dangerous part.

The Drake Passage still gave them an opportunity to see a number of dolphins, elephant seals, and whales. As of this time, the nearby islands are ice free and so they will be taking advantage of this as they transfer to rubber boats as they reach the peninsula. Some stops include scientific research stations and several penguin rookeries too. For the explorer on the trip, he knows where the colony of emperor penguins is and these are the largest from the 17 species in Antarctica and have been made famous by the March of the Penguins.
